 What We Believe
Minimize
Our Statement of Faith
What we believe is extremely important. You can be sincere in your belief and be sincerely wrong. So each person needs to seek for the truth. You’ve got to believe in the truth or you’ll fall for anything. The Bible is our source for truth. This is the truth we believe at The Journey.

1.      The Truth About God

God is an infinite and perfect Spirit in whom all things have their source, support and end. God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. God has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. God is a person and desires a personal relationship with those He has created.

See Genesis 1:1,26-27; Deuteronomy 6:4-6; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; John 3:16; 4:24

 2. The Truth About Human Beings

We are all made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. Human beings are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although we are in God’s image and have great potential for good, we are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God which we call “sin.” This attitude separates us from God. Without forgiveness of our sin we are without hope.

See Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; 59:2; Romans 3:23

3. The Truth About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with God the Father. Jesus lived a sinless life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He returned again to heaven’s glory and will return again to earth someday to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. By coming to Jesus by faith we receive the forgiveness of our sin and the gift of eternal life.

See Isaiah 9:6-7; Matthew 1:22-25; John 1:1-5; John 10:25-30; 14:1-6; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Titus 2:13

4. The Truth About Eternity

We all were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation, given to us as a gift through Jesus Christ. The place of eternal separation from God is called Hell. Heaven is the place of eternal union and life with God.

See Matthew 25:41; John 3:16; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; 21:27.

5. The Truth About Salvation
Salvation is a free gift of God to all who believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. It is only by God’s grace that we are saved. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can we be saved from the penalty that sin brings on us. Eternal life begins the moment we receive Jesus Christ into our life by faith.

See John 1:12; 14:6; Romans 5:1, 6:23; Galatians 3:26; Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5.

6. The Truth About Eternal Security

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the believer. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.

See John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10,14; 1 Peter 1:3-5.

7. The Truth About the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, equal with the Father and with
the Son. He is present in the world to make human beings aware of our need for Jesus Christ. The Spirit also lives in every Christian from the moment salvation is received through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit provides the Christian with power for living, gifts for service, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance to do what is right. We are to be filled with the Spirit everyday.

See John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16, 12:4-11; Galatians 5:16-26; Ephesians 1:13-14; 5:18.

8. The Truth About the Bible

The Bible is God’s infallible Word to all human beings. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It reflects the history and culture in which it was written but its message and meaning are for all humanity in every generation. It is the supreme source for understanding faith and its practice. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.

See Psalm 12:6; 119:105, 160; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21.
 Core Values
Minimize
Reaching People for Christ
Jesus Christ gave a commission to his church to “make disciples of all nations” (Mathew 28:19-20). This is not an option, but is the central focus of church life. We endeavor to touch people with the love of God and help them to become fully devoted followers of Jesus.

Releasing People for Service
It is not enough just to believe, for Christians are called to good works in the cause of Christ (Ephesians 2:10). Every believer needs to discover and use their gifts in service for Christ and the church. We serve because He was a servant.

Reproducing Believers and Churches
Every believer is called to reproduce. We are called to witness and win others to the cause of Jesus. In addition, the church is called to reproduce itself. We are committed to planting new churches as an outgrowth of our ministry.

Building Transformational Relationships
God calls us to relationship with Him. He calls us to relationship with one another. These relationships are to be life changing. They are to help us on our journey of faith. We are members one of the other so we can challenge each other to grow in the Lord (Romans 12:4-8).

Learning and Growing in the Word
The Bible is our source for the truth about life and faith. It is a “light unto our path and a lamp unto our feet (Psalm 119). To know God more, we must know His Word.

Enjoyable, Excellent, and Relevant Worship
Worship should be fun! (See Psalm 100 and Psalm 150) It is a celebration of what God has done, what He is doing, and what He wants to do in our lives. Worship demands excellence and relevance because it is a holy God that we worship.

Streamlined Organization
The New Testament does not prescribe one particular kind of church polity. Rather it asks believers to organize in a way that promotes mission and ministry. Structure should never determine ministry; ministry determines structure. Ministry can be accomplished simply and effectively.

Social Concern
The church is “in the world but not of it” (John 17). We are to be “the salt of the earth and the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13-14). Ministry demands a concern for the poor and needy of the world. The call of Christ demands social justice and peace. We are the hands and feet of Christ in ministry to the world.
